Guess what - I am bored - so what am I doing - baking. Just made blueberry muffins (from dried blueberries I brought back from Canada) and poppyseed lemon muffins. Have also made up a batch of cream of mushroom soup - I added some left over chicken to it. I am going to make some tea biscuits - my 'famous' cheese, garlic, italian seasoned ones - and I have a bit of the stuffing left for spanakopita - so will use that up as well. Sharon will be joining me for iftar again - it is nice to have company - and at least this time it will be ready on time - I am hoping - will get up from here and get on the rest of the things - so all I have to do is pop the biscuits in the oven to bake them - and warm up the spanakopita. Must admit that I am thirsty more than I am hungry by the time Iftar roles around. I think I would be happy just having gallons of fluid to drink for the evening. Would be so nice if I were losing some weight - but I am sure my metabolism has gone to starvation mode - storing everything I eat - oh well. But there is just no way that I can go out and exercise with no drinking allowed. Have trouble enough not drinking without adding exercise to the equation - I sweat enough without exercise. It is so much fun - I sweep the floors - and sweat into the dust and dirt that I collect and make mudpies - LOL.

Aymn has lost 10 kg already and Ramadan is only a bit over a week old. That is too much too soon - not healthy - says he fills up on water and milk.

Today I got busy and washed up the wind chimes that have a light that is solar powered - I also charged the batteries - it was not staying lit up for very long. I need to do something with a couple of the 'reflecting' lights that I have in the garden - two of them do not light up long - so will have to recharge their batteries as well. I also want to get busy and fix up my clothes cupboard - the piece of wood that holds the clothes bar in place fell down - I have glued it up - now I am going to get out my drill - drill holes and use a few screws - then that sucker will not fall down again - I hope - I will also put a few screws on the other end - before it falls down.

I will be heading back to Mohmodea on Tuesday - and back home on Saturday. Then on the following Tuesday I will again attempt to make it to Cairo. Will make chocolate chip cookies to take along with me as a treat for the kids - and we will make carmel corn - my friend there says she has access to corn syrup - there is a factory in her town where she can get some - so will get a stock of it in - that means one less thing I have to bring back from Canada. It is very noticeable that there are more and more things available that were not available before - of course if I lived in Cairo it would likely be even better - but here in Alex there are not a lot of ex-pats - so not a lot of western goods.

Ramadan is hard I know--when it's hot and you're trying to get things done as well. One thing I loved in Egypt--everything on one floor and I never had too much stuff to deal with. Here, I'm drowning in junk and four stories. I neeeeed to get back so bad!

Safa...I assume the snake is for the garden???

OK, do tell Maureen, what do I need to bring with me to survive in some rented flat for almost 2 months, in the way of cooking items? I had the use of your kitchen last time I was there, almost like home... I'm going to buy my MIL a microwave and use it until I leave hahahahahahaha, so that will help me when I have to feed him in the middle of the freakin' night......

I'm planning to bring some silverstone cookware and one of my favorite knives.... Can I find most everything else there for a reasonable price? I'm dying to bring my food processer but I know I can't deal with the electricity issues...

What about ingredients? Anything I won't be able to find there that I might need in 2 months??? Geez I can't wait for a vacation where I'm Suzy Homemaker in a foreign country in someone strangers kitchen.... heavy sigh....

Can you please freeze me a bowl of the mushroom soup and a biscuit?? hahahahahahaha

Hello, I first read your blog after your entry with the drama about the confusion on gues who is coming to dinner.....or who isn't. So I saved the link to check back and see how your conflict with Amyn turned out. Well the funny thing was that with that link I thought you were taking a very long time for your next entry, because I kept going back to the Aug. 11th entry. I was beginning to really worry!! I had all these terrible thoughts about what might have become of you! But thankfully you are doing fine! I wanted to ask you about a few things. I dont know how to reach you other than through this comments section. If you dont mind, please email me at docrhon@bellsouth.net. Also, I have a little piece of a blog on here called the Boat of Life

Eva - said snake is a plumbing snake. I am tired of having to get a plumber to clear out the drain in the bathroom - cost is not the issue - just the hassle of finding one.
Karamella - will not freeze the mushroom soup or the biscuit - but will make fresh for you when you are here. Not sure what you should bring for cooking - depends so much on how well stocked the kitchen in the rental is. If you need anything and cannot find it here and I have it - you are more than welcome to use it while you are here.
